I had this great link from Lewis Jaffe to his Bookplate blog and spent far longer than I should have done browsing them but he has amassed the most amazing and unusual collection and with true blogging generosity he has put them all on his blog for us to see.I had no idea that the rich and famous all indulged in their own personalised bookplates to this extent but here are a few I've snaffled with kind permission of Lewis to whet your appetite.
Lewis also reminded me about a site I have used before with a
wonderful selection of bookplates for children (but just as nice for
grown-ups I think) all by well known artists which you can download and
print off for free.
Fire up the printer and head for My Home Library and here's a selection from there.
You'd recognise the work of Shirley Hughes anywhere and also this one by Jan Pienkowski
Here's one who may be less familiar to many but one of my most favourite of children's illustrators. I'll buy any book with Caroline Binch's illustrations for the sheer joy of them and her website (I've even linked it again in case you missed it 9 words back)is a complete indulgence.I must do a blog post on her books, they are a real treat. And I'm afraid I just couldn't resist this last illustration by Caroline for a book by Kathy Henderson called Newborn. I've seen and held quite a few of these this week, what a perfect job I would have if not for politics and managers.
