Shock news...The Pilgrims, Plymouth Argyle have beaten Derby 2-0 at Home Park and are in the Quarter Finals of the F.A.cup.The QUARTER FINALS!!
This last happened in 1980-something and is etched in my memory.
What happens next is this.
Green and white will be festooned across a 25 mile radius of the city.
Every shop window will be suitably attired.
Every car will be dangling green and white things.
Now we all have no choice but to become ardent Argyle fans.We will quickly become well aquainted with the inside leg measurements of all the players, what they eat for breakfast, why they love playing in Plymouth and we'd best just give in gracefully and go and dig out our scarves.
What then happens is that they draw Chelsea and the whole city and beyond (Tavistock now becomes bosom pals with neighbouring Plymouth you understand) spends weeks saying we can beat them...perhaps we could?
We've got our share of Barrys, Garys and Lees but we have one or two Lilians, Hasneys, Akoss and Sylvans too lest we be thought too provincial
They're not that good Chelsea really are they? That Jose Mourinho's got nothing on our man Holloway.
Get them at home and that sea air would make them all sleepy, we're in with a chance.
No,it's a done deal, Semi-Finals here we come.
Fair weather supporters us...Ar-g-y-aaaaaaaa-llllllllll
