One of the interesting things about going away is coming home I always find and I have some lovely things, not least a pile of books to look forward to when I do.
A chance and wonderfully funny e mail from an author did the trick this week.
Angela Young did a clever thing because she must have speculated on my wicked sense of humour and wrote accordingly in high, but tongue in cheek, dudgeon asking why on earth I hadn't suggested her novel for my reading group.
In fact it was all quite outrageous that she had been overlooked.
Because I'd never heard of it I replied and where on earth had she been all this time while I've been blogging my guts out here and she had only just found me to tell me about it.
The upshot was that I then discovered a new independent publisher and after a quick e mail exchange with publisher Simon Petherick, a parcel arrived with the said book and more.
Angela, if you're reading this (and you better had be) it's alright, you can rest easy. Speaking of Love has arrived and I love the fact it's dovegrey AND has a ribbony bookmark because those always impress me. I can only apologise for not taking it on holiday with me (Angela will want an explanation) but the luggage limit would seem to be in excess already and I'd hate to get suntan cream all over it or spill a mint julep on that lovely cover.
The publisher is Beautiful Books and the books are indeed that and more. I will read and post more about all these when I get back but I'm particularly enthused by one of their imprints, Burning House; modern, commercial fiction with a real edge:novels you'd grab from a burning house. We've talked about those here before and now someone's giving us all a helping hand.
Meanwhile just to placate Angela, who is not to be messed with, here are the books:-)
