Strange events in the world of nature and climate this year in the UK and I feel it may all be my fault.
Last year was so sweltering that over the winter we installed some lovely blinds in the Book Room to keep the room cooler and the sun off all the books and my desk.
Today Devon is getting the latest wave of rain and I only hope we soak up the worst before this lot hits Gloucestershire. We can take up a bit of slack here having endured nothing like the torrents up country.
Just day after day of above average but manageable rainfall for us so far, but of course always "far too much" or "not quite enough" or "the wrong sort" for the salmon fisherman in the house (they are never satisfied are they?) He did catch a 14lb specimen yesterday though, so a glimmer of joy.
But here's a strange sight for you; Rocky Five Bellies in winter pose, stretched out in front of the Aga this morning, which is still switched on at the end of July when normally it would have been off for about eight weeks. He's been in a big fight again and we are all trying to avoid eye contact with him because sooner or later someone is going to have to take him to the vets and as you can see there is no basket big enough or strong enough and he knows it...oh cat heal thyself...please.
