Bookerthon 2007 - The dgr Booker winner is ...
After much anguished deliberation with myself I've settled on Darkmans by Nicola Barker and my thoughts on the book are here for anyone who is interested.
It's a fabulously written novel of huge scope, readable, funny, sad, strange verging on weird; ordinary people trying to live ordinary lives in suburban Britain in the very extraordinary surroundings of the 21st century.Nicola Barker's wondrously perceptive vision spots and records the everyday that most of us would miss in the blink of an eye.
A novel of our time that deserves recognition.
Of course that's only what I think and this may all be the kiss of death on a brilliant book because I've never chosen a Booker winner yet, but could my luck be changing?
