Since we last spoke I've been on a bit of a tree walk with William Fiennes, but had to nip off after we'd done Quercus Robur. to catch the Tea With Persephone Books before heading back through the woods to Justine's Daphne event in the Round Room of the main house.
I've walked miles and keep thinking about hopping on a spare quad bike.
Was Justine worried about being billy-no-mates?
This was the nearest I could get. The house and the Round Room so packed for her event the doors were closed by the time I arrived, so all I could do was peer in through the window and imagine what was being said. Justine was waving her arms around and it all looked expressive and fascinating, no one noticing me jumping up and down outside trying to see in.
This is a festival with such a difference it takes some getting used to. Every corner of grass or woodland you turn around something amazing is happening and I'm beginning to feel a bit conspicuous in my 'ordinary' clothes.
There's a lot going on with tin foil and I was thinking of getting fitted out for a tutu myself before my talk, just to take the edge off any nerves when I discovered it wasn't three of us in a huddle in the corner but a large, seated crowd and me with a microphone. So the Q&A session I'd thought I'd do with a few notes to prompt became something slightly more daunting.
It was good to meet lots of friends of dovegreyreader and Kit Berry is looking awesome in her corn dollies whilst the sun is positively melting us this afternoon.
Jung Chang was by all accounts incredible, a storyteller from the minute
she started speaking but I was busy pacing up and down thinking about
my words so missed her...sorry.
That done and time to concentrate on food and bless him, Bookhound appeared at my elbow with a picnic.
It was lovely to meet up with Nicola Beauman over lunch and a bowl of cherries and chat about Persephone Books, upcoming Persephone editions and generally stroke the books.
I then wandered off to the Ha Ha meeting point to walk the trees with William Fiennes
and therefore missed the tea and cake bit of Nicola's Persephone event but caught her talk before dashing off (back down the hill I'm getting to know well) and finding the lock-out happening at Justine's.
Back up the hill to my wireless signal just to keep you up to speed, and now I think I need liquid refreshment and as if by magic, here he is with a cup of tea and cake, bless him.
