I hope you're up for this because we have a very busy schedule this week and next, that's me and all of thee, because I do take you along to these things whether you like it or not.
Firstly the Everyone's A Critic event at PEN in London to look forward to ...and my thanks to everyone who's emailed to say they will be there, I think we'll at least fill a bit of a row with dovegreyreaders and please come and say hello.
Then I hope you've all got your passports and Euros sorted, because hot on the heels of that and hardly time to do the washing before we are heading off somewhere very exciting indeed.
Now things like this don't happen to me very often, but on the strength of the Team Ulysses endeavours, the Irish Tourist Board have very kindly invited me to Dublin next weekend to see the sights, meet a few authors and generally join in the weekend's celebrations for Dublin's UNESCO City of Literature status.
I know I could hardly believe it either, but it's really happening.
The flights are booked and I'm taking my camera and all of you along of course and we will be having ourselves one heck of a whistle-stop good time. I will of course be doing some bookshops I hope and my plan is to buy a 'nice' copy of Ulysses if I can find one and decent edition of the poetry of W.B.Yeats if I can find one of those too.
I met a delightful Irish lady at an Open University Summer School years ago who revered Yeats and assured me, in her gentle Irish lilt, that I absolutely must make his poetic acquaintance; something which done but very half-heartedly since the final exam paper that year contained one of Yeats's poems for analysis and I made a right pig's ear of it. I've had nightmares about it ever since.
Expect pictures of everything James Joyceian, Sandymount and Martello Tower-like and the rest once I get back, and then as if that wasn't enough excitement for at least a year, the following week I am finally going to meet Adele Geras.
Adele has been visiting dovegreyreader scribbles since its infancy and so when she mentioned that she would be at a literary festival in North Devon it was too good a meet up to miss.
So luggage ready and labelled for Thursday morning everyone, we're off on a big adventure.
And I've been doing a bit of Irish reading too so expect some of that to get us in the mood this week... as if we didn't know it, there really is something quite unique and special about it all.
