Well, almost 3000 posts later and when I thought I'd be fed up doing it after a couple of days, dovegreyreader scribbles is six years old this week, so I thought I really should be posting the obvious poem from A.A.Milne...
When I was One,
I had just begun
When I was Two,
I was nearly new.
When I was Three,
I was hardly me.
When I was Four,
I was not much more.
When I was Five,
I was just alive,
When I was Six...
and when it came to the last line I couldn't quite bring myself to announce that I thought I might be "as clever as clever".
Then I thought about writing some navel-gazey thing about what dovegreyreader means to me...and how much I love doing it....and...and... but in the end I decided that you all know that by now so I would spare you.
I did have an interesting time trawling back to the beginning though, so I thought I'd take you on a tour of some of the posts I have enjoyed writing the most ...
I stuck a pin in the screen on the left-hand sidebar and picked a favourite book from each year..
2006 A Long Long Way ~ Sebastian Barry
2007 The Emigrants ~ W.G.Sebald
2008 The Room of Lost Things ~ Stella Duffy
2009 The Other Elizabeth Taylor ~ Nicola Beauman
2010 Dart ~ Alice Oswald Part One & Part Two
2011 Annabel ~ Kathleen Winter
And then there was six years of Country Life to browse and moments like this ...
A Day at the Vets...if you hate cats skip this one
and I love those days when we can talk the hindleg off a donkey about something as exciting as this...
and what about the days when we can have a good laugh...
dovegreyreaders you shall go to the Royal Wedding
or the days when we traipse out in our pyjamas to look at this..
Lunar Eclipse One & Two
My goodness, we know how to have a good time here in Devon, talking of which I have ten days off work to look forward to now and will be in London mid-week for the 'event' at The Biographer's Club ... if you are there please do say hello afterwards. Either side of that, and after all the mayhem of emptying the nest, I plan a nice restful week of reading and writing.
Meanwhile, please pour yourself a cup of tea and help yourself to a slice of blog-birthday-book cake...and I really wish I could say I made this but I can't, someone very clever out on the interwebs did and I just google-magicked it onto here for us to eat...
And thank you ever so much for sticking around everyone, it is still very lovely having you here xxxx
