Thank you for that wonderful account Happy Campers and my thanks to Brian for an equally memorable event in the dovegreyreader tent the next day. As a footnote, and last but definitely not least, each guest left the tent with their knitsuke, the tradition we inaugurated last year with Edmund de Waal's knitted hare with amber eyes. We do like to know they have gone to happy homes and here is the hare seated contentedly in Edmund's studio...
As usual we had thought long and hard about our knitsuke and quiltsuke gifts for each guest, and my thanks to the Knit Angel, not only for making all the knitsuke but also for responding to my last minute pleas for strange but entirely appropriate items. I meanwhile hand quilted the quiltsuke for England through Wimbledon and with kitten assistance... whoever got the piece that I made through the Andy Murray match...well I can only apologise.
For Brian we could easily have knitted a silent film...or a railway station perhaps, but had much more fun with the mouse from Hugo, complete with a key and a heart ...
It might look uncannily like a rat but you will just have to believe that this is a gurt big West Country mouse, the sort that tap dances in our loft every winter. The eagle-eyed amongst you will have spotted that Brian is also holding the one that we made earlier too, which came out even more rat-sized after a bit of a felting issue. In the end that seemed entirely right given that Brian works in small scale and his work is enlarged. so he is thankfully homing them both. That large one kept appearing from nowhere and scaring the living daylights out of us in the run up so were quite pleased to wave it on its way...
...and Brian was absolutely delighted as you can tell from this picture when he first saw them...
