Dear Everyone,
Wish you were here...
We really really do because after an early shower rainstorm the fine weather has finally arrived and looks set fair for the rest of the weekend we hope, so we will all be topping up our vitamin D levels. Susie Parr swam into our first event and might almost have persuaded me that I could quite possibly do this thing called swimming in a costume in a freezing cold lake/river/sea... absolutely no wetsuits allowed. I'm still thinking on it.
An error in the size of our tent meant that we then had to evacuate our little bijou abode while the tent crew moved in to put up a pavilion-sized palace in its place, and quite amazingly the knitting just carried on to one side regardless. We quickly re-convened and welcomed Tracy Chevalier, author of Girl With a Pearl Earring who talked about and read from her next novel The Last Runaway. I had mistakenly read that as 'Runway' on the website and quite thought this was a novel about airports, so imagine how relieved I was to find it is about the underground slave railway and that quilts play a part in the book. Tracy and I did a little quilt show-and-tell..mine the still unfinished Kayaker's baby quilt (this is me remember) and there was a twenty-nine year old Kayaker taking pics in front of me...some mirth ensued whilse we agreed it was at least a wonderful archive of 1980's Laura Ashley fabrics. Tracy's quilt was beautiful and you will see some pictures in the link at the end of this post.
Fran and Carol have done a valiant job with our Flower Show entry...
We await a verdict tomorrow... This Sceptered Isle (not quite complete in this pic..missing the crown) and we went for a bit of a Coronation theme with a little gaggle of ermine-clad peers with which we were well-pleased.
And Mrs M who blogs at This Sight of Morning has been tweeting wonderfully for us all day so hopefully you have all been able to follow our progress on the feed over here >>>>>>
Big day tomorrow, more authors plus the Vocal Harem set on the Bowling Green stage so must away to my bed...so excited and so much information stored up my brain refused to switch off last night, so tonight it feels about ready for a rest. You will find a Flicker stream of today's pics here... many a funny-face and eyes in need of sleep pour moi, but it will all give you a flavour of the day and my thanks to the Kayaker for the pictures.
