...Offspringette, currently enjoying the six week summer break that all teachers have rightly earned.
I'll own up and say that I used to be in the 'aren't they lucky devils' department when it came to teacher's summer holidays, but now I know very different.
Offspringette has just finished her Qualifying Teacher year in a secondary school, teaching English and Media and so is now fully fledged (hooray) but my goodness, the hours and hours and hours of lesson planning and teaching, and keeping a class in order and inspiring them, and marking and report writing and parent's evenings, and then all the coughs and colds to be caught and worked through... all to be survived and the year has left little time for anything else in her life, so this break much-needed. Time to wind-down and recharge batteries.
As you know I do like to take this opportunity to embarrass our children, but really mustn't now that we have a proper and respected teacher in our midst..
...but of course that's not going to stop me.
And here we are, a few years on and as you can see the weather never stopped us either (poor things) and Marmite ALWAYS came too. A Harrod's Toy Department-bred teddy, and each child was bought one for their first Christmas by my Mum and the Tinker, and each was adored.
If we'd ever lost Marmite the Dartmoor Rescue Group would have been called out, it would have been that serious.
Do you remember those days ??
The nightmare of the missing 'thing' at 7pm??
We have been out in the garden with torches, and on one infamous occasion the Baby Gamekeeper's was reported missing and eventually found in the frozen pea cabinet at the supermarket. We could have kissed the person who responded to our desperate and near-hysterical phone call, mobilised the shop staff and did an aisle-by-aisle search and rescue.
And we'll gloss over the day Marmite's head eventually came off and intricate surgery was required.
Happy days, doesn't seem five minutes ago, so have a good one today Offspringette and all our love as always xx
