I'm still working from my iPad so please forgive me, new posts might be a bit brief and scrappy (heaven knows how to highlight and italicise my titles, it seems to be beyond Typepad on here) until I sort out my desktop PC. I'm going to be swapping across to the Tinker's computer, which was almost new when he died, whilst mine has been chugging along on a very slow and outdated Windows system and is fast becoming obsolete. It's taking me a bit of time to pluck up the courage to do it but I'm getting there slowly...it's out of the cupboard. Persephone hot water bottle reading posts will still appear because I had a few of those in the bag before the 'collapse' so expect Harriet by Elizabeth Jenkins soon, followed by The Winds of Heaven by Monica Dickens.
Waiting in the wings in case anyone fancies reading ahead too will be...
Farewell Leicester Square by Betty Miller
Greenery Street by Denis Mackail
Vain Shadow by Jane Hervey
The Hopkins Manuscript by R.C. Sherriff
Consequences by E.M.Delafield
Meanwhile would you just look at me...I've started The Essex Serpent. I read the opening chapters on my Kindle for 99p before realising that I absolutely had to be holding this book in my hand. A trip to Waterstones revealed an in-store edition with a blue cover and a ribbon book mark...and thank you to the Kayaker who bought it for me. It's a thing of beauty.
I'm going to go back and read your comments but thus far I realise it's not a book to read in short bursts, I need a good run at it to absorb and disappear into the atmosphere but so far, and against all my expectations I am loving it.
I am wondering whether this might be because I read Leviathan last year? The history of the whale and much about Victorian sightings of sea serpents in there.
Anyway I'm on a roll...
So what are you all reading...
