I'm wondering whether autograph books have gone out of fashion with children now?
Mine was one of those constants and placed under the nose of just about anyone I ever met but perhaps it's not quite the done thing now.
I'm afraid I cashed in and sold Dusty Springfield and Brian Poole and the Tremeloes on eBay but I have kept
Cilla Black. We had a neighbour who worked for an entertainment agency, was it cheating for me to send her off with my precious book?
Coco the Clown, I got this one at Billy Smart's Circus.
Mike Maxfield...who? Remember Billy J.Kramer and the Dakotas? Well he was a Dakota and if you're my age you all know the song, Listen..oo..oo..oo do you want to know a secret..oo..oo..oo

I've often owned up that I ADORED Cliff Richard and the Shadows, so we couldn't believe our luck when John Rostill the son of a family at our Church became the Shadows bass guitarist following in the footsteps of Jet Harris. What with that and the drummer from Mud being my Sunday School teacher (for those that missed that news first, second or third time round) it all made Sundays that bit more exciting.Sadly some years later John Rostill was electrocuted in his recording studio and I now discover that sadly David Mount from Mud died last December.
Browsing around one of our favourite little bric a brac antique shops in Ashburton this week, in amongst all the wonderful embroidery and knick knacks I found this old Autograph Book inscribed "Birthday Wishes from Kitty April 2nd 1920".

Obviously in the early 1920's it was customary to do far more than just a signature and there are some absolutely delightful hand drawn and painted pictures in this book.Beautiful in my eyes for their imagined creators and all very much of the time, reflecting fashions, furniture and more.
I'll share them on here through the day.
Please also note I then went to one of the best second-hand bookshops in the West and I didn't buy a single book.
