I'm only going to whisper this but like last year, we have some lovely prize draws coming up in the weeks before that season when we hang up stockings and, to quote the poet Matthew Sweeney, the 'Fatso in the red suit' comes down the chimney and puts things in them.
Now I know I know, no one wants to think about all that yet but in order to get done in good time we'd better make a start.
Where better than with today's offering, two great big copies of Family Britain 1951-1957 by David Kynaston which Bloomsbury will happily send out worldwide.
It's early to be putting up this picture but I do it every year and really I'd quite like to get it out of the way and forgotten and it's appropriate today. This is Christmas 1950s and me and my brother visiting the 'Fatso in the red suit' at Kennards in Croydon circa 1957 ... I look happy and relaxed sitting there don't I (NB clenched fist) and there's my brother grinning away with gratitude that he hasn't had to perch on that lap.
Names in comments and Rocky (another Fatso it has to be said) aka Santa Paws, will set to waxing up the runners and painting the sleigh and start delivering...remember last year?
If you can see your way to obliging, his preference is for a soothing stroke and a nice dish of local fare when he arrives followed by a sojourn on a plumped up cushion in a place of warmth before he continues on his travels.
Names in comments and let's get this year's sleigh underway.
