Well, I lasted precisely 4.25 days before bailing out of the Robert Fagles translation of The Odyssey and jumping back on board my beloved copy of Emily Wilson.
This for my book-a-day read through June.
Much as I loved the floppy comfortable feel of the book in my hand, with its deckle edges, Fagles felt too studious and academic (and complicated) for my needs, whilst Emily Wilson's translation is so readable and amenable but no less challenging for a non-Homer person like me.
And I discover that, as I read last year, I wrote in life happenings, on odyssey of my own through the month of June 2018, so I'm adding in this year's events too.
I've sifted out a pile of related fiction, though have no idea how many (if any) I might read. I've discovered it is entirely possible to overdo this Greek reading theme. Maybe its the sheer volume of names and gods and their offspring, but nevertheless a great selection here when the fancy takes me.
Meanwhile wishing anyone else, who might be reading along on an Odyssey of their own, safe passage through the torrid events to come, no looking at the Gorgons now and take care navigating Scylla and Charybdis.
